I feel your pain as my first day I went 22 deaths and zero kills and gradually got better until I was at 15 deaths and zero kills by the end of the day.
So for me trying to get kills to get SKILL POINTS was out. So the alternate way to get skill points is to hack stuff.
Ok so forget about killing for now. Heres what you need:
MILITIA SCOUT suit to RUN! like a bunny and hack those objectives and installations for SKILL POINTS!!
This is what you spend your skill points on: Dropsuit command to level three!! The go to marketplace and buy ONE skillbook of EACH of these three skills: Vigor, Endurance and mobility.
The more stamina you have the longer you can sprint and the faster stamina recovery means you can run!! fast!! again!!
And those mobility modules let you run! really, really, really! fast!! So hack and capture to get skill points to improve your skills leading towards the goal of killing those folks that were killing you.
Invest in other skills that improve your shields and armour HP like mechanics. Remember to for now run away when you see a bad guy and let the good guys on your team kill them. Getting skill points does help and its satisfying to level up skills in dropsuits weapons to the point of killing the bad guys.
After your FIRST match you will have around 30k to 60K skill points so its time to level up either an assault, heavy or logi dropsuit to at least level one.
And if you can use your alternate characters to test if you like assault ,heavy or logi suits better. Remember to SPECIALIZE in just one area be it scout, assault, heavy, logi, hav, dropship or lav. Pick ONE weapon to level up instead of trying to level all of them.
Hope this helps. |

Thats the USUAL in the FPS genre where new players get instakilled the first few days.
A new players guide helps a lot for new players.

If you want to go for the KDR route, then immediately after getting the dropsuits, invest some SP into your preferred weapon skill and the Weaponry skill. If you go for more of a support role, get busy with engineering and electronics skills, just research them a bit first in the market!
. Kinda...
In truth all you need is Shield skills, Assault suit and Assault rifle. Or the other route is Missile Turret Sagaris. Takes longer though :)
For THIS build thats going bye, bye, yes. Who knows what goodies next build will have??
Perhaps if magnetic mines are in next build then a fast scout using magnetic mines on lavs, tanks and tossing them at dropships that try to bug crush will be an interesting alternative to creodons, creodons, creodons and even more creodons....sigh. |

Darkz azurr wrote:I agree a new players guide is useful but I play a lot of fps games and even new games I'm high on the leader boards aftr my first or second game, I think what your guide says is good for this build but ultimately at release new players in a fps should feel there there gun skills translate over into dust, and they feel comfortable taking down enimies after a game or 2 , and not have to play for a week just so they could get some sp points in the right places to kill someone, but I think when matchmaking is in place it should help alot. I mean we are in what would be highsec atm, and as highsec is at the moment,"full of proto gear" it's not very highsec "new player friendly" but yes it's beta and things will change, I hope :p your guide is helpful btw I'm not bashing it at all, just how the current build works.
I.e. in MAG new players got owned until after a weeks play they managed to level up. Even then it took around three weeks play until new players were able to semi compete with more seasoned players. There in that game were guides aplenty and in that game it was a tenth or less complicated then this game.
But this game Dust 514 is a lot more fun where there are more gameplay options than MAG, MW, Call of Noob, KZ, etc.
